Michael Babitch: "Electiveness of regional governors is dictated by time"

author: Eugene Rakhimkulov

The time itself dictates the necessity of electiveness for regional governors. This is the opinion of the Plenipotentiary of the President of Russia in Volga federal district Michael Babitch, which he expressed during his press-conference in Nizhniy Novgorod. He supported the initiative of the President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev and marked that every historical and political stage in the history of the country had its own priorities.

"First the regions grasped as much sovereignty as they could" — he mentioned — "Later it turned out to be too much and it was necessary to centralize these authorities, putting the state structure in order. Today the society wants this procedure to be more open and transparent. I think it's quite reasonable that on the next stage in development of the country the governors will be elected. The main thing here is the opportunity to estimate the results of their work through direct voting and in this case the governors will get the feedback with the population. I think that this initiatives comes quite in time".

Talking about Volga federal district Michael Babitch has said that strong governors were always traditionally present on this territory and there is no necessity of any changes in personnel in the nearest future.
