Rustem Khamitov: “The methods for teaching native languages in the Republic have to be changed”

The drop of interest in study of native languages occurs because of the non-efficient education programs. The President of Bashkortostan Rustem Khamitov expressed such opinion in the course of the August Republican pedagogical gathering in Ufa.

“Sure, the situation is far from pleasant but we mustn’t politicize it” – the he said – “The real reason to my mind has nothing to do with the national problem. Those lingual programs, which were worked up 15-20 years ago and still in use, are not interesting and rather dull. English, German and French languages are lectured in totally different form – bright and game like. If we are going to lecture the native languages as before, it means we make these languages uncompetitive, i.e. the dissatisfaction with the native languages we observe today is not the dissatisfaction with these languages themselves, but people don’t like the way the native languages are lectured”.

The President RB ordered the humanitarian block of the Government RB to work over the problem concerning establishment of the Republican specialized center for study of native languages jointly with the Bashkir State Pedagogical University in the shortest possible time. The Minister of education RB Alfis Gayazov has reported that because of the transition to the profiled education the senior pupils will study native languages only by their own will.
