The open contest for Arab calligraphy is declared in Russia
The Caucasian Nations University declared the all-Russian contest for Arab calligraphy. The main goal of the contest is the disclosure of young talents, mastering this art, and encouragement of their strivings for spiritual perfection, acquaintance of youth with the values of the Arab-Muslim culture and counteraction to spreading of pseudo-Islamic and extremist ideology. As the contest’s initiators say the age limits are absent and any person, wishing to join the contest, may demonstrate his knowledge.
All works have to be carried out in Arab writing and can contain a word, expression, proverb or surah from Koran, executed with the help of one of the Arab writing styles for the choice of a competitor. All works should be submitted on the paper sheet of at least A4 but not larger than A3 format. The text, written in the “Nash” style, and its translation into Russian language have to be applied.
Originality and aesthetics of the introduced works will be taken into account first of all.
The contest’s final stage, the exhibition of works, publication of the results and solemn awarding ceremony for the winners will take place on September 29, 2011, at the National Library of Dagestan by Rasul Gamzatov (Makhachkala, Gamzatov Avenue, 43).
