Bashkirs in Russian regions suffer from shortage of books

author: Eugene Rakhimkulov

Bashkirs in Russian regions suffer fr om the shortage of books in Bashkir language. The deputy Prime-Minister of the Government RB Zugura Rakhmatullina reported about that at the meeting of the governmental commission on realization of the Republican law “The languages of nations RB”.

“We recently actively communicate with the Bashkir communities in those regions of the country, wh ere Bashkir diasporas are present” – she said – “Bashkortostan actively supports their striving for preservation of native language and culture but at the same time we often receive their requests to supply them with the Bashkir literature they are really interested in and not with the historical monographs, attractive just for narrow circles”.

As Zugura Rakhmatullina reported, many neighboring regions, Chelyabinsk region for example, have large literature funds in Bashkir language but they face serious problems with their replenishment since people in these regions are interested in popular literature, written in live spoken Bashkir language and not in the scientific treatises.
