The group of Christian believers from Ufa will go on pilgrimage to Italy in May. In the town of Bari they’ll take part in the liturgy on the remains of Nikolai the Wonder-Maker in the day, devoted to his memory, the Ufa Eparchy pilgrimage service reports. During the tour the pilgrims intend to visit the Christian holy places in Rome and to bow to the particle of the Vivifying God’s Cross, to the remains of the apostles Peter and Paul, to the Bethlehem’s manger of Christ and to the Not Made by Hands Savior’s Icon in Manopello.
Nikolai the Wonder-Maker is respected by the representatives of all Christian branches. He is honored in Russia from the most ancient times and considered one of the most respected Saints in the country, so even the people, having little in common with religion, know this name quite well.
In the Bible legends Nikolai is glorified first of all as the Wonder-Maker and it is considered that miraculous healings and even raisings from the dead occurred after his prayers. There are two days of memory by Nikolai the Wonder-Maker – December 19 and May 22 but along with these special holidays his memory is commemorated by the Church every Thursday and his name is often pronounced during the services other week days.
