The President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev urged the whole country to start forming the full-fledged Russian nation:

“Such nation has to presume preservation of national identity of all nations, inhabiting the country” – he said on Friday at the Russian State Council Presidium’s gathering in Ufa – “Only in such case we will be really strong and there is no need to smile, saying that once somebody already tried to form such nation. Really, first time we’ve failed to cope with this challenge. The creation of the unified nation was stopped by the breakdown of the state. But other countries have managed to cope with such aim and we have to start doing it too again”.
