author: Rufina Khannanova

The exhibition “Creation of liquid crystals” is opened at the Art Gallery “Academy” in Ufa. The

exposition represents the collection of rather unusual works, interesting from the scientific point of view. The liquid crystals, very sensitive to external actions, come out as the”authors” of these works. Changing the temperature, the voltage of magnet field and mechanical tension one can change the picture and the color of the crystals. The images, presented at the exhibition, are enlarged many times. Besides, the video-installation, demonstrating the dynamics in change of the picture in a liquid crystal, is presented at the exhibition too. The exhibition is prepared under the guidance of the physicians Alexander Chuvyrov, Simeon Shapiro and Olga Denisova.

The art director of the Moscow Modern Art State Center Leonid Bajanov was also present among the gusts and participants of the exhibition.

“The XXI century opens the vast fields for human cognition and creative realization” – he said – “And it seems this exhibition doesn’t contain just the “waste” of scientific activity but represents quite scientific interests. Modern art doesn’t operate with such notions as “picture” and “sculpture”. The older generation faces certain difficulties, trying to understand such art since it was torn off from new directions in the course of many decades”.

One of the authors of the project – the candidate of physical and mathematical sciences Olga Denisova – believes the liquid crystals play rather significant role in our everyday life and many modern devices work on these crystals.

“In the course of our investigations of the liquid crystals we shot these works. Thanks to these investigations we could watch the images of the amazing beauty. Now we offer to use the liquid crystals for making various art patterns, drawings and pictures, which can be used for decorating of the apartments in solution of various design aims.
