“The month of Mari language and culture is held in our town for already the third year and traditionally includes various actions, aimed at popularization of Mai language and culture” – the chairman of the local Mari cultural-national center, the editor-in-chief of the Mari newspaper “CHOLMAN” Igor Gubaev told to the news agency “Bashinform” – “The contests of essays and readers among pupils, studying Mari language, numerous national festivals etc”.
For the reference: Mari people of Bashkortostan are considered the largest Finno-Ugric diaspora in Russia. They maintain their ethnic culture, language and traditions. The regional Mari national-cultural autonomy “ERVEL MARI” functions in the Republic for a long time. More than 60% of Mari pupils study Mari language at more than 200 schools. 13 centralized libraries serve the Mari population. More than 50 Mari folk groups work in the Republic. The interregional Finno-Ugric art festival “The Gems of PRIKAMIE”, the interregional Mari national cultural festival “MURPELEDYSH”, the contest of Mari pop singers “CHOLMAN YOK” and other big cultural actions have already become traditional in Bashkiria. The Republican Mari newspaper “CHOLMAN” is very popular in our Republic and several languages are published in Mari language in Mishkinsky and Kaltasinsky regions RB.
