President RB gives carte-blanche to the strongest measures, aimed at price-cutting

author: Nikolai Ermolenko

At the beginning of this week the President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev has held the conference in Moscow, where he demanded to penalize the profiteers, making profits out of the bread and cereals. Thus, the buckwheat disappeared or became much more expensive in some regions, thought its reserves in the country are more than enough. By the instructions of the President of Russia the Federal Anti-Monopoly Service is busy with checking all big buckwheat purveyors and about 700 cases are already opened for today. The Federal Anti-Monopoly Service believes this is not an accidental concatenation and the collusion between the participants of the food market, especially in the wholesale segment, is more than evident.

The theme, raised at the meeting in Moscow, is for a long time found in the field of vision of the Bashkir leadership. The consumer prices in Bashkiria grow up as well as all over the country: in August 2010 the index of consumer prices made up 101,2% — by 0,6% more than in Russia on average. Since the beginning of the year the growth of inflation in the Republic made up 6,3%, while in Russia it was equal to 5,4%.

Food prices in Bashkiria were stably growing up since August 2010: in January-August this growth made up 8,5% against 5,4% for the same period of time in 2009 (the level of food prices in Russia wasn’t changed – 6,6%). The cost of the minimal food set has grown up by 17,8% since the beginning of the year, making 2161 rubles (2372 rubles in Russia).

The governmental conference concerning the situation in the food market RB has taken place in Ufa the day before and the President of Bashkortostan Rustem Khamitov ordered the members of the Republican Government and heads of the Republican municipalities to work up the measures for stabilization of the main food prices.

“I give the heads of municipal districts the carte-blanche for the strongest measures, aimed at price-cutting” – he said. The President RB insists the food prices in Bashkortostan mustn’t grow and if they are stable now, the authority has to think how to cut them. The commission for monitoring of the food prices will start working in Bashkortostan in the nearest future. It will be headed by the head of the Presidential Administration RB Nikolai Kurapov and its staff will include the representatives of the executive power bodies, public organizations and trade associations.
