As the news agency “Bashinform” already reported, the group of the climbers reached the Victory Peak on August 24, where the Bashkortostan’s banner was raised. The mountaineering failed to avoid the tragedy. Three climbers reported dead and one of them –Cyril Mokhov – was a citizen of Ufa.
During the descending from the peak the climbers had to stay on the seven-thousandth point for a long time because of the cold snap. After several days of anoxia two climbers had deceased and one died later. The medics report the brain swelling has become the main reason of the fatality. The head of the project Alexander Ivanuta, who stayed in Moscow and the expedition’s coach Akhmadulla Minibaev, who failed to become the “Snow Leopard” – he had to conquer the last peak for this rank, also feel themselves rather poorly.
The unique project “Victory-65” – the mountaineering of the Bashkir climbers to the most northern seven-thousandth peak of the planet – the Victory Peak – was organized in the honor of the 65th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The project was organized by the Sports Arrangements Department RB jointly with the Alpinism Federations of Russia and Republic of Bashkortostan by the initiative of the Ministry of youth policy and sport RB.
