The rise of potato prices is registered in Ufa for the last week and according to the Ufa Mayor Paul Kachkaev there are no grounds for this rise in reality and certain mass-media, spreading the information that the harvest of potato in Bashkiria allegedly turned out to be too low, provoke to the rise of such situation. The potato purveyors use both this information and the stirring demand, gaining to the maximal profits.
“In reality there are no grounds for such fears and moreover for the rise of the potato prices” – Paul Kachkaev said – “Really, because of the unfavorable climatic conditions the potato harvest in Bashkiria is expected to be slightly lower than before but the same harvest in the neighboring regions is high enough. Ufa never supplied itself with potato only due to the local deliveries, always buying about 50% of it in other regions. Nothing will change if we buy not 50 but 70% of potato from aside in 2010. The autumn prices of the purveyors from the neighboring regions will be low since many of them will be happy to sell it in our markets”.
The increased demand in buckwheat is also made through the fault of the incompetent journalists. The consumption of this cereal in Ufa was always at the level of 4,8kg per one citizen every year but for the last time this showing substantially increased. It doesn’t mean the citizens began to eat buckwheat more often. They just put it by, being afraid of the sudden jump of the food prices.
