The question is it appropriate for the heads of some Russian regions to call themselves presidents should be solved exclusively at the regional level. This is the opinion of the deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Alexander Torshin, who arrived in Ufa to hold a meeting with the President of Republic of Bashkortostan Rustem Khamitov and with the chairman of the State Council-Kurultay-RB Constantine Tolkatchev.
“The decisions, how the CEO’s should be named, have to be made in the regions in accordance with the regional legislations and without interference of the federal center” – he said – “As for my private opinion, I think the question is put quite right and we must have only one President in the country and the heads of the regions may call themselves chairmen, governors etc – the choice of the variants is wide enough”.
It should be reminded the question concerning the expediency of the presence of several presidents in the country received wide discussion in the press after the recent statement of the head of Chechen Republic Ramzan Kadyrov that he didn’t want to call himself the President of Chechnya any more. He sent the official letter to the parliament of Chechen Republic with the request to introduce the corresponding alterations to the title of the regional CEO.
