The Central City Library celebrated the 130th anniversary of the birth of Majit Gafuri
The interlibrary session timed to the 130th anniversary of the People's Poet of Bashkortostan Majit Gafuri took place in the teen-age department of the Central City Library in Ufa.
Representatives of more than 20 city libraries came to the seminar. The agenda had one question: How the work of librarians on popularization of the heritage of the Bashkir and Tatar literary classic in the framework of educational process can be livened? During the seminar, librarians also recollected how the poet lived and worked. Majit Gafuri used to be held in great love and respect of people. He was the first in Bashkir literature to be awarded the title of the People's Poet.
The Gafuri prize winner, journalist covering international affairs, poet Madril Gafur took part in the work of the session. He is currently the director of the Public Association — Majit Gafuri-21st Century Cultural Fund established in 2004. The work of the Fund is aimed at preservation and multiplication of cultural and intellectual heritage of people living on the territory of Bashkortostan and outside it, popularization of literary heritage of the poet, enlightener, public figure and thinker of the last century Majit Gafuri.
Lucia Kamaeva, the wife of the younger grandson of the poet Halit Gafuri was invited to the meeting. He told about the work on creation of the family tree of Gafuri.
During the meeting, the poems of Majit Gafuri were recited in English for the first time. The author of the translation is the journalist and regional ethnographer Anna Maslova.
The interlibrary session approved the program of events for the school year of 2010-2011. It includes discussions about life of the poet, peculiarities of his creative work and his high civic position, as like no other at the beginning of the 20th century he managed to confirm by his life the creating destination of a poet to live for the sake of people.
