The Muslims of Bashkortostan together with their adherents all over the world are actively preparing themselves for the beginning of the Holy Month of Ramadan. In 2010 the month will begin on August 11 after the sunset and the special Mohammedan prayer will be read out that evening in all mosques of the country.
According to the Muslim religion Allah began sending Koran down to all people with the help of his Prophet Mohammad this very month. The this month’s fast is prescribed by Koran and is considered one of five Islamic columns together with the belief in God, the necessity to read the Mohammedan prayer, the pilgrimage to Mecca and obligatory charity to the poor.
After the end of Ramadan and the end of the fast one of the greatest Muslim holidays begins – Uraza-Bayram. In Bashkortostan this day is considered the official day off.
