Delegates of the World Bashkir Kurultay discuss the problems of Bashkir language preservation and development

author: Sergey Zakharov

One of the sections at the III World Bashkir Kurultay is devoted to preservation and development of Bashkir language in the multinational country.

“Preserving the language means preserving ourselves”, “Actual problems of functional Bashkir language at present stage", “The law RB "About languages of nations RB”: realities and prospects”, “Modern Bashkir periodical press and speech culture” – this is just a part of the reports, made by well-known scientists, politicians, public activists and pedagogues.

It was stated that the languages of all ethnoses, living on its territory, were declared the national property and cultural heritage in Russia. For all these languages state support, creation of necessary conditions for further development and assistance in organization of various forms of education are guaranteed.

One of the most developed systems of national education is created in Bashkortostan. Education at local schools is held with the usage of six native languages. 14 languages are studied as a separate subject and newspapers and magazines are published in six languages of the most numerous nations. In opinion of the section’s participants the proposal concerning elaboration and approval of the third state program for realization of the law “About languages of the nations RB" should become one of the important points of the forum’s future resolution. Besides, in order to preserve the language of the Bashkirs, living abroad, it is necessary to ratify the European Charter of regional languages or the languages of minorities.

For the reference: according to information of the experts there are about six thousand languages in the world and this number is constantly coming down. One language dies on the planet every two weeks. At present time about 500 languages are considered disappearing and Bashkir language is also found in this group. The main reasons of this situation are globalization and migration.
