One of the authors of the project of the Congress-hall in Ufa, the famous architect Kiokazu Arai has won the open international architectural contest for the best concept of the multifunctional centre with the five-star hotel “Inter Continental” in Yerevan. As our compatriot, living in Japan, a well-known architect Rishat Mullagildin reported to “Bashinform”, the first stage of the contest, where 280 projects from 60 countries were introduced, failed to determine the winner. As a result, six finalists were offered to take part in the second stage. The main struggle occurred between two projects: one project of the Japanese company “Arai Architects” and another one of two French companies “Agency Search” and “Series et Series”. By the unanimous opinion of the jury the preference has been given to the project of the Japanese architects under the guidance of Kiokazu Arai. His project of the multifunctional centre in Yerevan includes the hotel, the business-centre, the community and the parking, meant for 2000 cars. The 101-meter hotel “Inter Continental” will become the highest building of the centre. It will become the highest building in Yerevan too as well as the Soviet Youth Palace, once located on this site. From this place, which has become the cult one still in the Soviet times, the wide panorama of Yerevan is open, so from the point of view of town-planning the site has the unexampled responsibility. The centre should be maximally blended with the landscape. By the unanimous decision of the jury the Japanese architect managed to choose the concept, able to preserve the town-planning accent of the city, enriching its silhouette and maximally meeting the demands of the customer. The future centre is located so that 95% of its windows will look at Yerevan. Moreover, the hotel has the resemblance with the great peak and the community — with the smaller peak of the Bible’s mountain. The centre will be erected by the newest building technologies and only Armenian building materials will be used here. The cost of the investment program will make up about 200 million USD. The construction will start after the Yerevan administration’s town-planning committee approves it, and will take four years.
This news makes citizens of Ufa to be proud of because the world architectural star has realized its first projects in Ufa jointly with the company “Raum Architects”, headed by the Professor of the International Architecture Academy, our compatriot Rishat Mullagildin. The project of the Congress-Hall in Ufa, designed by Kiokazu Arai and Rishat Mullagildin, has turned out to be the best of all other projects presented and now this building in the capital of Bashkortostan is considered one of the most beautiful. Kiokazu Arai has become the first foreigner, who received the State Award RB by Salavat Ulaev.
