According to the all-Russian population census-2002 there were 497 thousand children in Bashkortostan, aged under 10 inclusive. One of the lowest levels of birth rate in the XX century fell on the period between the population census of 1989 and 2002. The population started to orient itself to the reduction of children in families. As the Bashkir State Statistics Committee reported, only 41,4 thousand kids have bee born in the Republic in 1999 – it was the year of the lowest birth rate after the end of the Great Patriotic War.
For the last decade we observe the steady growth of birth rate. Thus, 54,5 thousand kids have been born in the Republic in 2008 and 55,6 thousand – in 2009. The birth rate coefficient made up 13,7 births per 1000 people (12,4 in Russia on average). Bashkortostan holds the second place by birth rate after Udmurtia in Volga federal district.
But the existing level of birth rate isn’t able to provide for the full replacement of generations. For simple population reproduction 22-23 births should fall on 10 women. At present time this index in Bashkortostan reached 17.
The statisticians point to the tendency of the increase of the average mother’s age when giving a birth. If in 1989 the average mom’s age made up 25,9 years in Bashkortostan, in 2002 it was equal to 26,8 and in 2008 – 27,7. Modern women put the birth of children aside for the time till the things go better.
Since the latest records the picture of the Republican population’s reproductive behavior has underwent serious changes and the results of the all-Russian population census-2010 will give truthful information to what extend and how the situation with birth rate among people with different social-economic characteristics altered.
