The 8th of May is the World Day of struggle with hypertension
The World Day of struggle with hypertension is marked every year since 2005 every second Saturday of May in accordance with the decision of the World League for struggle with hypertension and with the assistance of the World Health Organization.
Hypertension is a wide spread epidemic in the world, affecting both well-developed and developing countries. According to estimations of medics more than 1,5 billion people in the world suffer from this illness. More than 50% of people, aged more than 60, have high blood pressure in many countries, only one third of the people, suffering from hypertension, receive proper medical treatment and only 12% of them are found under medical control.
Within the frames of the top priority national project “Health” the vascular centers and primary vascular wards with all necessary equipment were opened in 12 Russian regions in 2008.
These centers work in Republic of Bashkortostan since 2008 and the Republican goal-oriented program “Arterial Hypertension”, meant for 2009-2013, is successfully developed here. But the medics consider that healthy way of life is the most efficient method of hypertension prevention and for that everyone has to keep his weight under control, lower salt consumption, avoid alcohol and tobacco and struggle with stresses. Observation of these simple rules will help to improve the quality of life and lifetime.
