The meeting of tenth formers of Ufa school N14 and Afghan War veterans took place within the framework of events devoted to the coming Defender of the Motherland Day. Organizers of the military-patriotic action were the National Museum of Bashkortostan and the Bashkir branch of the All-Russia Military Brotherhood Veteran's Organization.
The meeting had the form of informal conversation. The schoolchildren acquainted themselves with "Wings of Afghanistan" exhibition that opened in Shagit Khudaiberdin's House Museum. Lieutenant Colonel Ildus Khalitov, who was in command of a separate helicopter regiment in the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan, familiarized the children with the history and methods of air-ground support, air patrol of columns of troops, landing operations and casualty evacuation, and also told them about his operational record.
Colonel in reserve Albert Shagimuratov, the activist of the Military Brotherhood, and Gali Valiullin, the director of the National Museum, told girls and boys about the history of this Central Asian country and that undeclared war, during which Soviet soldiers, the Bashkirs among them, displayed courage and heroism and for the first time offered armed rebuff to the international terrorism and drug mafia.
