The meeting, held in Ministry of industry and external economic relations RB today, was dedicated to problems of restoration of Republican tanning industry and was headed by the deputy Prime-Minister of Government RB Uri Pustovgarov.
In its time Bashkortostan possessed very powerful tanning industry and two plants on processing of rawstock in Sterlitamac and Oktyabrsky. By 2005 these plants were practically shutdown: depreciation of the main assets and the absence of circulating assets have brought these enterprises to bankruptcy.
At the same time for many years Bashkortostan holds leading positions in Russia by cattle livestock and it means it possesses a good rawstock base for organization of tanning industry here. But now individual businessmen buy the skins from population at knockdown prices and sell it to big tanneries beyond Bashkortostan.
“We can’t put up with such situation” – Uri Pustovgarov said – “While having so large cattle livestock on the territory RB we don’t develop so profitable branch as tanning industry. The problem is very serious and we have to restore the whole technological chain – from rawstock collection to tailoring and sales of leather goods here”.
It is decided to establish the association of leather manufacturers and to work up the measures for support of the branch in the Republic.
