October 10 is the World Mental Health Day
Since 1992, October 10 is registered in all calendars as the World Mental Health Day. It is held under the patronage of the World Health Organization and the World Mental Health Federation. In Russia, this day is observed since 2002.
Preservation and improvement of mental health of population is one of the most urgent problems of any state. It is connected with the fact that it is mental health that determines national security of a country, preservation and improvement of its labour force and scientific potential, as well as living standards of its population.
The World Mental Health Day is observed for society to pay attention to problems, connected with mental illnesses and to help people suffering from them.
Every second person has problems with mental state at least once in a lifetime. More than 150 million people annually go through the periods of depression. Five out of ten most grave illnesses are connected with the state of mind. Information overload, political and economic cataclysms contribute to the growth of sickness rate, and the portent of the illness is stress, which became a constituent part of a human life.
According to the press service of Ministry of Health Care, the Day of Mental Health helps to arouse interest to this problem and favours the growth of popularity of long-term campaigns on protection of mental health.
