The delegation of the German Federal Institute of forest genetics headed by its director doctor Bernd Degen has arrived in Ufa for a working visit. The purpose of the visit is participation in development of a common project "Oak on the eastern frontier of natural habitat — local adaptation in the time of global climate change".
According to the Bashkir State Agriculture University, an application for grant for carrying this project out is made to the German research society DFG and to the Russian fund of fundamental research. An expedition over the Southern Urals is also planned. The scientists will collect material for joint study.
There is an agreement about financing of joint research activities in 2010-2012 between the department of land management and forestry of the BSAU and management of the institute of forest genetics. Although officially the parties may start the work only in November, the plant material — acorns — needs to be gathered at the beginning of October. That is why the expedition over the Southern Urals is necessary.
