Celebration devoted to the International day of elderly people is going on in Ufa in the city culture centre. About 800 war veterans and workers on the home front, pensioners whose youth fell on hard post-war years became participants of the event. The deputy head of Ufa administration Alfira Bakieva in her opening speech mentioned that International Day of elderly people — is a special holiday.
"It is not an ordinary calendar date" — she said — "On this day we honour those people who went through the hardships of war, broke fresh grounds, survived in concentration camps and worked hard in the years of post-war devastation. Young generation owns a debt of gratitude to elder people. Owing to their hard work and wisdom, we have an opportunity to work, study and to be free".
Guests of the event will enjoy interesting entertainments. There is an exhibition of children's drawings in the hall of the culture centre; the orchestra is playing. Many guests are dancing a waltz to retro melody. Those who find dancing too careless may participate in chess and draughts matches.
"Day of elderly people is a pleasant holiday" — an Ufa pensioner Roza Khusainova says — "We are very glad that we are not forgotten. As a person who went through many things in life, I would like to appeal to young people. Let them take from us all the best — willpower, fortitude, creativity — and get infected with our enthusiasm".
