Rafael Divaev: Protection of forests from fires is the matter of paramount importance
Protection of forests and fauna from fires was under discussion at the meeting of the governmental commission RB on emergency situations and fire safety, held by the deputy Prime-Minister of Government RB Rafael Divaev.
“Struggle with forest fires is the matter of state importance” – he said – “We often become the witnesses how an ignition in afforestations acquires the scales of the national disaster and fires in Greece, in California and in our country – in the Far East and other regions – may serve as the evident example”. In opinion of Rafael Divaev all services must take part in fire extinguishing: federal and Republican bodies and institutions, enterprises and organizations of all forms of property and local municipalities.
As compared with 2008, which was extremely unfavorable from the point of view of fire safety, in 2009 the number of forest fires reduced almost twice (286 fires in 2008 and 114 – in 2009). At the same time according to estimations of Ministry of forestry RB the damage, caused by forest fires is evaluated at more than six million rubles and the expenses for fire extinguishing made up more than one million and a half rubles. But the real damage, caused by fires, can be hardly estimated in money equivalent at all because decades and sometimes centuries are needed to restore the burnt down forests.
“The main thing we have to realize now is that all fires in the Republic have to be extinguished with total mobilization of all means and resources, both federal and regional ones because all forests are the territory of Bashkortostan and our national treasure” – Rafael Divaev summed up.
