“The bitter laugh of Nikolai Vasilievitch Gogol” – under this name the thematic exhibition of rare editions by the 200th anniversary of the famous writer, considered one of the greatest masters of prose and dramaturgy in Russian literature of the XIX century is opened in the National Library RB by Achmet-Zaki Validi. The exhibition presents the unique editions from the funds of rare books and manuscripts and periodicals. Besides, the exhibition presents the correspondence of Gogol with our compatriot, well-known Russian writer Sergey Aksakov. The book of Sergey Aksakov “The history of my acquaintance with Gogol” had been published in Moscow still in 1890. But the edition of Nikolai Gogol’s book “Chosen places from my correspondence with friends”, published in Gogol’s lifetime in 1847 can be by right considered the most valuable exhibit.
