KHL announced early completion of 2019/2020 season
The Kontinental Hockey League has decided to end the 2019/2020 season. This was reported on the official website of the League. The reason was an adverse scenario for the new coronavirus infection spread.
“The League has developed many scenarios for the further development of events: from playing out the championship by April 30, 2020, to continuing it in June and July. However, at the moment, the execution of these scenarios seems unlikely,” the official statement says.
According to KHL President Alexei Morozov, the players asked for a decision as soon as they needed certainty to make plans.
“I believe that we should also try to ensure that the current situation does not affect the next season in any way, that it starts in the usual time for teams and fans, and his calendar is rhythmic and balanced,” said Morozov. At the next meeting of the KHL Council, positions will be allocated between KHL clubs based on the results of the last championship.
