UFA, 12 December 2019. /Bashinform News Agency/ translated by Tatiana Aksyutina/.
The First International Ethnic Tourism Forum has opened in Ufa. Experts of the tourism industry gathered to discuss the problems, the difficulties of this area, and ways to solve them at the Toratau Congress Hall.
An ethnic tourism exhibition is located in the lobby on the ground floor. The participants presented the opportunities of regional tourism: rafting and hiking, jeeping, horseback riding, dog sleds, snowmobiles and catamarans, festivals, and events, in particular, the program of the winter festival in Ufa “Terra Zima” were presented.
Experts talked about the importance of correctly positioning the events.
In particular, Gennady Shatalov, the Chairman of the Board of Region PR agency, member of the Public Council at the Federal Tourism Agency, speaking at the panel discussion “Ethnics as the Main Tool for Tourism Development”, noted that Bashkiria was lucky due to its cultural component through which regional events should be presented.
He cited the example of the “Ishtugan” Bashkir crayfish fishing festival, which took place in the Meleuzovsky district.
According to the chairman of the Republican State Committee for Tourism, Salavat Nafikov, enthusiasts are currently organizing ethnic events. And the ultimate goal of everything is to make projects profitable; otherwise, sooner or later, interesting projects will disappear.
The Executive Director of the National Association of Tourist Information Organizations, project manager of the National Events Calendar Mikhail Ushakov noted that it was challenging to promote an ethnic tourism product.
“Ethnic tourism is a visiting card that attracts tourists, and it must be designated as a fact of attractiveness. We are often embarrassed to talk about what we have. It is necessary to maintain a balance of 30/70. Ethnic tourism means emotions, and people go after them, but it’s hard to attract guests to what they should feel.
Here, Kamchatka can be considered a good example. Thanks to the established tourist flow, it has become more affordable, local infrastructure is being created.”
The discussion raised questions about the opening of direct flights from Ufa to European capitals. However, experts noted that the opening of new routes from the capital of Bashkiria was impossible without high demand, passenger flow. And it is too early to say that Ufa can become an international hub.
But it was noted that this should not stop those who create ethnic products. Because if they are attractive, people will go even to hard-to-reach places.
The forum will also discuss the main digital tools in tourism, the interaction, and development of ethnic routes, the creation of conditions for the development of ethnic tourism in the regions, as well as the role of content in promoting the territory. Issues of folk art and tourist souvenirs, national cuisine as the basis of ethnic tourism will be considered at separate roundtables.
The forum and exhibition will be open at the Ufa Congress Hall until December 14.
