Unique treasures are found during old house demolition in Bashkiria

An old Bashkir national women’s jewelry — a hackal (plastron ) was found in the Abzelilovsky district of Bashkiria while demolishing an old house.
As a resident of the Yanaul village Madina Yakupova told the Bashinform News Agency, the find was discovered by her relatives in the abandoned house in the village of Askarovo, where their grandmother Maftuha used to live.
Note that the Bashkir women used to sew all valuable exchangeable items that were in the family on the hackal — silver coins, coral beads, cowrie shells. Hackals were indicators of status and, to some extent, a settlement account of the family. Some of these decorations were equated to the price of a horse or a cow.
In order to preserve the valuable family heirloom in the difficult years, the girls wrapped the hackal embroidered by their mother in a rag and put it between the logs of the house. After that, the family moved to another village; other people lived there, then the building burned, and in recent years it was completely abandoned. And now, years later, the relic was found and, surprisingly, safe and intact. Though the base of the hackal is worn, beads, corals, and coins crumble away, but, most importantly, such a valuable item has been found, Madina notes. Presumably, the hackal was made at the end of the 19th century, but there are even more ancient coins on it dating 1794.
Now the decoration is at the elder sister of Madina. Women want to give it for restoration and keep it as a souvenir for descendants.
