New national park Zigalga is being created on border of Bashkiria and Chelyabinsk region

The Zigalga National Park will be created in the Southern Urals. The corresponding decree was signed by Dmitry Medvedev. The new facility is located in the Katav-Ivanovo district of the Chelyabinsk region and partially in the territory of Bashkiria. Its area will cover 45 thousand hectares. The new park will be the first specially protected natural area created this year in accordance with the "Ecology" national project.
According to the Prime Minister of Russia, the creation of the new national park will contribute to the development of tourism in Russia, including environmental tourism.
“Unique forest natural complexes are located here. Many plants and animals are listed in the Red Book. Well, these places have always attracted tourists,” the prime minister said. “Now there are additional opportunities for developing ecological tourism there, that is, creating infrastructure for this, new jobs.”
Vice Prime Minister Alexei Gordeev added that the Zigalga National Park would help to preserve the unique landscapes, flora, and fauna of the Southern Urals.
Zigalga is one of the major and long ranges of the Southern Urals on the left bank of the Yuryuzan River. It lies in the southeast of the Katav-Ivanovo district of the Chelyabinsk region. The southern tip of Zigalga with the highest point of the Bolshoy Shelom ridge (1427 m) is located in the territory of the South Ural Nature Reserve in the Beloretsky district of Bashkortostan.
