The 10th anniversary competition-festival “Jazz Island” will be held for the first time in Ufa in international status. The program will be plentiful — this is not only competitive auditions of young jazz vocalists, instrumentalists, ensembles and orchestras, but also seminars, creative meetings.
The international jury will be headed by the outstanding Brazilian percussionist Leo de Paula (Vitoria, Espiritu Santo), and young jazzmen from Uzbekistan, Colombia, Kazakhstan, Kazan, Samara, Chelyabinsk and other cities of Russia and the cities of Bashkortostan (Salavat, Sterlitamak, Mezhgorye) will come to Ufa.
The festival will open on November 19 with a concert by Leo de Paula and auditions of instrumental soloists. November 20, auditions of soloists — jazz vocalists will be held, on November 30 — ensembles and orchestras. By tradition, one of the concerts of the "Jazz Islands" will be held in one of the small towns of Bashkortostan (this year it will be Salavat), and the festival will end on December 1 with a gala concert of laureates and diploma-winners of the festival-competition in the Chaliapin Concert Hall of Ufa State Institute of Arts.
“The “New Jazz Movement”, which began in Ufa at the beginning of the 21st century, now covers not only the “traditional” jazz cities of Bashkortostan — Ufa, Sterlitamak, Salavat — but also cities where jazz has not sounded for years: Meleuz, Birsk, Davlekanovo”, says art director of the project "Island Jazz", founder and first head of the jazz department of the Ufa State Institute of Arts Azamat Khasanshin.
