The 27-year-old Olympic champion, foil fencer and lieutenant Timur Safin became the winner of the 7th World War Games. In the Chinese city of Wuhan, the Ufa man defeated the French athlete Maxim Poti in the final — 15: 9. The Safin’s gold became the second in the collection of the national team of the Russian Armed Forces.
The bronze medal in the foil went to Alexei Cheremisinov, who lost to Timur Safin in the semifinals.
China hosts the World War Games for the first time, although it has been held for 24 years. The Games are attended by 10 thousand military men from more than 100 countries and regions of the world, which is a record in their entire history.
The Games will last ten days. The main topic is “Joint strengthening of friendship, joint peace-making”. Competitions will be held in 329 disciplines in 27 sports.
