In Ufa, the ballet troupe of the Bashkir Opera and Ballet Theater was proposed to be named after Rudolf Nureyev. The theater director Ilmar Almukhametov addressed to Askar Abdrazakov, an adviser to the Head of Bashkortostan on culture and art with such an idea.
“Such an idea in our heads was born a long time ago. When we go on an international tour, we are presented exactly as the "Nureyev Ballet," Ilmar Almukhametov said.
He recalled that Rudolf Nureyev spent his childhood in Ufa, was impressed and inspired by the ballet “Crane Song” with Zaituna Nasredinova in the lead part, took his first creative steps on the stage of the Bashkir Opera and Ballet Theater. Currently, the theater hosts the Rudolf Nureyev International Festival of Ballet Art. A bas-relief of the artist is installed on the theater building.
Ilmar Almukhametov also appealed to Abdrazakov with a request for assistance in overhauling the Small Hall of the theater, including observing the standards for people with limited mobility and obtaining vehicles for the theater.
