On June 18, in the Ufa Congress Hall “Toratau”, the Deputy Secretary-General, Head of the UN Counter-Terrorism Office Vladimir Voronkov read a greeting by UN Secretary-General António Guterres to the participants of the 10th International Meeting of High Representatives for Security Issues. In his address, he expressed gratitude to Russia for organizing the forum and wished the participants fruitful work.
“I commend the Russian Federation for continuing this important initiative, and I am pleased to note that the main topics of this year’s meeting will be national security, sustainable development, and humanitarian response measures. These issues are of paramount importance. A deeper understanding of their connection and the development of common approaches to their resolution is crucial in the light of multidimensional, transnational threats and an increasingly complex global environment, in matters of peace and security. The United Nations will continue to intensify diplomatic efforts for the benefit of peace, paying more attention to prevention, mediation and conflict resolution”, the message says.
Besides, António Guterres believes that climate problems require an immediate solution.
“Due to the harder effects of climate change, our achievements can be negated. The global climate crisis threatens our very existence and equally concerns both security and development issues. Solving this problem requires a stronger political will. There is no time to lose. In September this year, I convene a summit on measures in the field of climate change to encourage commitment, work out solutions, form partnerships and mobilize funds”, the message specifies.
