Electronic passports will be introduced in Russia
UFA, 9 October 2018. /Bashinform News Agency, Galina Bakhshieva/ translated by Tatiana Aksyutina/.
Since 2021 in Russia it is planned to begin a gradual transfer of citizens to electronic passports, according to RBC.
Ultimately electronic passports should completely replace paper passports. They can be made in the form of a plastic card with an electronic chip. Discussion of the project on the introduction of electronic passports took place in the Russian Government in September.
The chip will contain the information of SNILS (IIAN), driver’s licenses and other personal data. In parallel with this, a unified data registry of all Russian citizens should be created.
The cost of the reform of transferring Russians to e-passports may amount to 114.4 billion rubles until 2024. It is planned to reimburse this amount for the budget at the expense of the state duty for obtaining a new document.
The electronic passport will give the state information systems access to the “digital profile” of a citizen, combining all the necessary information to carry out legally significant actions.
It has previously become known about a “Digital Profile” system creation in the country by 2023 from the draft national program “Digital Economy”, approved by the Government on September 17.
It means a creating a meta-profile of a citizen with data, which are stored as links to legally significant entries in electronic state registers (for example, data about real estate or taxes). An account in the "Digital Profile" will allow uniting all the legal information about a person, reducing the time for the exchange of information between departments.
