Bashkiria Customs confiscated more than 230 coins and transferred them to National Museum last year
UFA, 18 April 2018. /Bashinform News Agency, Olga Murtazina/.
Last year Bashkortostan Customs confiscated more than 230 coins with numismatic value. A silver Morgan dollar of 1901 and a Hungarian pengo of 1930 were transferred the other day to the National Museum of the republic. Previously, customs officers handed over to the museum a collection of 225 foreign coins from the late 19th — early 20th century.
As explained by the Bashkortostan Customs, this collection was withdrawn from a postal parcel sent abroad. The unclaimed dollar Morgan was found and seized at the Ufa airport from a passenger traveling to the UAE. The pengo was withdrawn by employees of the Orenburg customs. Both of these coins appeared in the collection of National Museum for the first time.
"The museum has a significant numismatic collection, but, unfortunately, less and less donations are made now. In recent years, the collection was replenished only with coins handed over by customs", the National Museum RB informs.
Since the beginning of this year, three coins have been withdrawn at the airport: 5 kopecks of 1832 — not recognized as a cultural property; 1 ruble of 1817 — the value was recognized, a case of an administrative offense was filed; 10 rubles of 1899 — now is under examination.
