Bashkortostan will bid for hosting the 2025 World Games. The Head of Bashkortostan Rustem Khamitov stated this at a meeting with members of the Russian Association of Sports Commentators.
According to the head of the region, the republic continues to work actively to attract major sporting events to the republic. Thus, in 2019 Ufa will host the Summer International Children's Games.
"We applied for the World Games 2021 — it's a kind of Olympic Games for non-Olympic sports. But in the final part of the vote we lost to Americans — it was just after the Crimea's joining, so the politics interfered", Rustem Khamitov said. "But currently we start to return to that original project because we have everything to host the World Games”.
World Games are international complex competitions for those sports that are not included in the program of the Olympic Games. They have been held since 1981 by the International Association of World Games (IWGA) under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee once every four years for 11 days. Russian athletes have been participating in these competitions since 1993. Ufa applied to hold the World Games 2021, but by the results of voting lost to the American Birmingham.
