The Federal Agency for Tourism urges tourism companies to consider the statements about refraining to travel to the Republic of Cuba due to difficult weather conditions, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the adviser to the head of the department Svetlana Sergeeva.
The representative of Rosturizm said that the department received a message from the Russian embassy in the Republic of Cuba that as a result of the passage of Hurricane Irma through the territory of this state, the infrastructure of key tourist centers, including the popular resort of Varadero, suffered serious damage. Water and energy supply, as well as communication networks are disrupted. Hotels are affected.
"Currently, there are about 1.5 thousand Russian tourists in Cuba, including 746 in organized tourist groups. There were no reports on the victims of the disaster among Russian citizens to the situation-crisis center of the Russian Foreign Ministry. However, we are constantly in touch with the Russian embassy in Cuba, the situation and crisis center of the Russian Foreign Ministry, the Russian Airways, tour operators operating in the Cuban direction, as well as with public associations in the field of tourism. Rosturizm within the limits of its powers watches development of the situation and observance of the rights of the Russian tourists", Sergeeva stated.
According to the department, some of the hotels on the island are temporarily closed, and flights between Cuba and Russia are performed taking into account the weather conditions. Russian tourists are advised to refrain from traveling to Cuba, and in case of making a decision about such trip, it is necessary to check the information on departure and actual accommodation with their tour operators (travel agents).
