Vladimir Putin held a meeting with the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the BRICS Summit in Xiamen. The current issues and prospects for the development of relations between the two countries were discussed there.
The Russian President marked the long historical background of the two countries' relations, having named them as "privileged strategic" ones. "We maintain constant relations both at the level of foreign policy departments and at the level of our governments; we are actively developing military-technical cooperation. If last year we observed some decline in our trade relations — minus 1.6%, then this year in the first half of the year we observe a significant growth — almost 22%. And we definitely need to keep up with this positive trend", said Vladimir Putin.
Narendra Modi, in turn, recalled the joint work at the St. Petersburg Economic Forum: "I will always remember this meeting, your hospitality, the reception level. And I really liked its working atmosphere. I understand how we can work together to raise the level of our relations, as well as how under your leadership we can cooperate, discuss the economic situation in the world and bring it to a new level".
