On August 2, in the House of the Government of Bashkortostan within the framework of a meeting with the official delegation of the West Java Province of Indonesia, an intentions protocol was signed on cooperation development with this province in trade-economic, investment, scientific-technical, social-humanitarian and cultural spheres. The document was signed by the Head of Bashkortostan Rustem Khamitov and the Governor of the Western Java Province Ahmad Heryawan.
"We would like to participate in major projects that are implemented in Indonesia today. First of all, this is modernization and construction of new oil refining facilities. We have relevant competencies, institutions, projects, engineering and construction companies. Accordingly, Rosneft is now already working with Indonesian companies, and I would like to see our specialists attracted to such work through Bashneft", Rustem Khamitov said.
According to the Head of the Region, Bashkortostan can become a reliable supplier of halal food products for Indonesia. Among the priority areas of cooperation, the Head of the Republic also noted education, culture and tourism.
Ahmad Heryawan thanked the leadership of Bashkortostan for the warm welcome.
"First, we will outline those areas that are of mutual interest in the framework of the twinning agreement between our regions. And already within the framework of this document, we plan to develop cooperation in such areas as education, culture, agriculture, livestock and machine building. We are interested in developing cooperation in the field of metallurgy and petrochemical industry. Since West Java is the most densely populated region of Indonesia with a population of more than 47 million people, we have a very receptive market and this gives additional advantages for the various projects implementation", said the Governor of Western Java.
The Republic of Indonesia is among the foreign economic partners of Bashkortostan. In recent years, the largest volume of mutual trade was registered in 2013 — $ 78.9 million, as a result of a large supply of aircraft turbojet engines to Indonesia. Traditionally, synthetic rubber and unrefined sulfur are exported there. The basis of imports is composed by different equipment. Last year, the volume of foreign trade turnover between Bashkortostan and Indonesia amounted to 807 thousand dollars, and for five months in 2017 the volume of turnover exceeded the indicator of 2016 by 1.5 times.
