Nureyev Festival featured modern Romeo and Juliet in Ufa

The Nureyev Festival featured modern Romeo and Juliet performance in Ufa. The staging of the famous ballet brought by the Yekaterinburg Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre was made for the 125th birthday of Sergei Prokofiev and the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare in 2016. Literally a month ago, the work was awarded the "Golden Mask" theatre prize.
The performance was particularly interesting for Ufa residents familiar with the classical version of "Romeo and Juliet" in the production of Shamil Teregulov. The original choreographic language of Vyacheslav Samodurov combines classical dance en pointes with modern plastics.
The ballet was conducted by Alexei Bogorad. The production designer — Anthony Makilueyn. The lead roles were performed by Ekaterina Sapogova and Alexander Merkushev. The graduate of the Bashkir Choreography College, the laureate of the Golden Mask and the prize of the Governor of the Sverdlovsk Region, Igor Bulytsin danced Mercutio part.
The 21st Rudolf Nureyev International Ballet Art Festival started in Ufa on May 23 and will last until June 2. Tomorrow, on May 26, Ufa residents will see the Swan Lake of the Bashkir Theatre. On May 29, the Chelyabinsk Opera and Ballet Theatre will present the "Esmeralda" ballet.
